Pillow OEM / ODMLatex, memory foam and functional pillows

Loft, size, firmness, composite core and outer packaging worked out together, so the pillow matches its market position. Adult, children and camping specifications all developed in house.

The first specification of a pillow is not the material. It is the loft.

TL;DR for bedding brands and channel buyers
  • Loft is a function of shoulder width and sleeping posture, not a case of higher being more comfortable; side and back sleepers differ sharply
  • Latex rebounds fast and breathes; memory foam envelops but holds heat — different customers, not better and worse
  • Our own TakeSoft patented green latex: natural latex compounded with binchotan charcoal at high density
  • Adult, children and camping specifications need genuinely different density strategies
  • Packaging can be integrated — design, production and packing, or we fill a box you supply
  • Natural latex carries natural proteins; we recommend the finished product declares its composition

1. The first specification is loft

What a pillow has to solve is holding the cervical spine in roughly the curve it takes when standing. Lying down opens a gap between head and mattress, and the pillow's job is to fill it. Fill too little and the neck hangs; fill too much and the neck is pushed forward. Either way the shoulders and neck accumulate strain over a night.

Because that gap is set by shoulder width and sleeping posture, a side sleeper's gap is clearly larger than a back sleeper's and needs more loft. This is why the same pillow draws opposite reviews from different people — not a bad product, but a specification mismatched to the user.

Brands handle it three ways in practice: ship two loft options in the same range, design a different height at each end so the user can turn it round, or build an adjustable insert. The three differ a lot in cost and packaging complexity, so the choice belongs in planning, not as an addition after sampling.

2. Four pillow core materials

Core materialFeelBreathability and heatLimitation
Natural latexFast rebound, support arrives as you turnOpen cell structure, dissipates heat wellProtein-bearing, composition must be declared
TakeSoft patented green latexLatex rebound with binchotan compoundingOpen-cell foam, complete airflow pathAlso a natural latex material
Memory foam (slow-rebound PU)Envelops and conforms, even pressureClosed cells, poorer heat dissipationStiffens when cold, slow to recover
High-resilience foamFirm support, controllable costModerateA springy feel that not everyone likes

3. TakeSoft patented green latex core

Our sleep pillow uses TakeSoft patented green latex, made by compounding natural latex with binchotan charcoal at high density rather than surface-treating a finished part. The material property therefore lives in the body and does not fall away with surface wear or repeated use.

Shape, size, thickness and firmness are all adjustable to your market position. If a different route suits better, memory foam, high-resilience foam and other composites are available for comparison.

How to state functional claims
Material literature for binchotan and latex commonly describes deodorising, anti-mould and antibacterial behaviour, but a material property is not finished-product performance. If the product is to publish an antibacterial rate or a deodorising claim, it must be tested as a finished item by a standard method such as AATCC 100 or ISO 20743, with the method and the organism stated. We can supply process information; we recommend the brand rely on its own test report.

4. Adult, children and camping specifications

SpecificationDesign priorityCommon adjustments
AdultLoft matched to shoulder width and posture, durable supportTwin loft options, wave profile, zoned density
ChildrenLower loft, limit how far the head sinksThinner overall, firmer support, reduced footprint
CampingLight, compressible, easy to cleanLower density, roll-up construction, water-repellent shell

The three look like a size difference and are actually a density strategy difference. A children's pillow cannot simply be an adult one scaled down: reduce the size and the load per unit area falls, so the original density now reads as too soft. A camping pillow has to find a new balance between weight and support altogether.

5. Finished examples

Existing pillow shapes in the factory, all adjustable in profile, size and firmness to a brand specification.

6. Packaging and freight cost

A pillow is a product where volumetric weight exceeds actual weight, so packing decides how many fit a carton and therefore the freight per unit. Vacuum compression cuts volume sharply but affects recovery time and first impression on opening; uncompressed looks better and ships ready to use, but costs more to move. That trade-off is worth calculating during planning.

We can integrate: outer packaging design and production, filling and packing a box you supply, and cartoning to your specification for dispatch.

8. Frequently asked

At what stage can we start talking?

A market position is enough. Tell us the target buyer, the price band and the sleeping posture or claim you want to lead with, and we will work back to a suitable shape, loft and material. If you already have a reference product, bring it — pillow firmness described in words carries a lot of error, and handling one removes the ambiguity.

Latex or memory foam?

It depends which sensation you are selling. Latex rebounds fast, so support arrives immediately when the sleeper turns, and it breathes better — good for people who sleep hot or change position often. Memory foam rebounds slowly, giving strong envelopment and even pressure distribution, but it stiffens when cold and dissipates heat less well. Neither is better; they are different customers. See Functional Pillow ODM for the ergonomics detail.

How is loft decided?

The job of loft is to hold the cervical spine in roughly the curve it has when standing, which makes it a function of shoulder width and sleeping posture rather than a case of higher or lower being better. A side sleeper has to fill the gap from shoulder to neck and needs noticeably more loft than someone lying on their back. That is why a single range often carries two loft options, or a wave profile with a different height at each end.

Can you make children or camping pillows?

Yes. A children's pillow is about reducing loft and limiting sink so the head is not swallowed; a camping pillow is about low weight and compressibility, which drives a completely different material and density choice from a domestic pillow. We have production experience in both.

Can you handle the outer packaging as well?

Yes. You can supply artwork for us to produce and pack, or supply the box and let us fill and pack it. Pillows are bulky and freight-sensitive, so how they are packed and how far they are compressed feeds straight into landed cost — worth settling during planning rather than after sampling.

Is natural latex an allergy concern?

Natural latex is tapped from the rubber tree and carries natural proteins, and a small number of people are allergic to natural latex protein. We therefore recommend the finished product states its composition clearly so consumers can judge for themselves. If your customer base includes allergy-sensitive users, a PU memory foam or other synthetic route is available.
